From filopodia to synapses: the role of actin-capping and anti-capping proteins.

Actin-capping and anti-capping proteins are crucial regulators of actin dynamics. Recent studies have indicated that these proteins may be heavily involved in all stages of synaptogenesis, from the emergence of filopodia, through neuritogenesis and synaptic contact stabilization, to the structural changes occurring at the synapse during potentiation phenomena. In this review, we focus on recent...

the role of russia in transmission of energy from central asia and caucuses to european union

Ena/VASP Proteins Have an Anti-Capping Independent Function in Filopodia Formation□D □V

Filopodia have been implicated in a number of diverse cellular processes including growth-cone path finding, wound healing, and metastasis. The Ena/VASP family of proteins has emerged as key to filopodia formation but the exact mechanism for how they function has yet to be fully elucidated. Using cell spreading as a model system in combination with small interfering RNA depletion of Capping Pro...

Single molecule kinetic analysis of actin filament capping. Polyphosphoinositides do not dissociate capping proteins.

We investigated how heterodimeric capping proteins bind to and dissociate from the barbed ends of actin filaments by observing single muscle actin filaments by total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy. The barbed end rate constants for mouse capping protein (CP) association of 2.6 x 10(6) M(-1) s(-1) and dissociation of 0.0003 s(-1) agree with published values measured in bulk assays. ...
